Communities in West Sumatra, Indonesia, are fully feeling the catastrophic effects of a climate crisis which is not of their making.

It was still flooding when we were there; it’s terrifying how quickly rivers can rise and wash away roads and block communities in. These floods have also taken lives, as massive landslides fall onto houses.

We went into one remote village, Langgai, which has never had foreigners enter before.  So remote, we had to all sleep together on the floor of the village elders house and bathe in the river the next morning. This kind of experience will never be forgotten, it makes my humanitarian heart beat.
