I was commissioned to capture the lives of people in Kiribati, a group of islands in the South Pacific, by International Planned Parenthood (IPPF).
This was part of an ongoing IPPF project to document the effects of climate change on the people of the South Pacific islands.
Kiribati is extremely vulnerable to climate change; rising sea levels lead to regular flooding of its coastal homes, putting the population at constant risk of homelessness and poverty.
It was truly a mind-blowing, life-changing experience for me – seeing one of the least-visited countries in the world and witnessing first-hand the effects of climate change on this tropical paradise.
My image of 'Susan', a sex worker in Kiribati, was shortlisted in the Photojournalism category of the AOP Awards.
