I am honoured to have made the shortlist in the Portrait of Humanity Awards, which celebrate images of hope, resilience, community and unity.

My image is of Pastor Seburikoko Alberta, who was abducted with his family in January 2018 by Maimai rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He managed to escape the rebels, leaving his family behind, by walking for four days through the jungle to the Ugandan border (where this image was taken).

He was immaculately dressed and exuded calm, despite his ordeal. He was happy to talk to me and I felt privileged to have met him and to be able to tell his story.
