I was recently deployed to Sudan with IPPF, a global healthcare provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all. This was a humanitarian mission looking at health care provided for refugees on a Um Rakuba camp that borders with Ethiopia. More than 70 000 refugees flee the ongoing conflict in the Tigray region of Ethiopia and have made the exhausting journey to Eastern Sudan. The stories were heartbreaking but the strength and resilience of the people I worked was inspirational.
